Staff members at Advanced Computational and Engineering Services apply
their capabilities to designing and seeing to fruition new medical products
and technologies.

Our recent development of technology for medical needs includes assessing
the performance and expected lifetime of moving implanted devices, designing
medical implants, optimizing component design for fluid flow, developing
novel manufacturing processes, and inventing remote devices for interrogating
implanted devices. Additionally, staff members have specialized expertise
in such topics as:
- Stress
analysis of implants
- Optimization
of materials
- The biomechanics
of human movement
- Assessing
the effect of electromagnetic and acoustic fields on human tissue
- The corrosion,
oxidation, and fracture of ceramics, metals, and composite materials
used in implants, medical tools, and bio-technology devices
- The detection
of acoustic emissions, such as the ones shown at left, from heart
or orthopedic implants
- Blood
flow analysis
